The cases examined here are all good examples of the failings of Colombia’s justice system, and how individuals can fall victim. In each case the process is the same:

The cases examined here are all good examples of the failings of Colombia’s justice system, and how individuals can fall victim. In each case the process is the same:

  1. Individual is accused on charges without enough evidence
  2. Individual is put in prison without having the possibility of bail
  3. While in jail, the accused is not able the exercise his or her right to a proper defence
  4. The process stretches on (in some cases indefinitely) without a decision from the Court
  5. The Court ultimately decides that the individual is innocent and that there was no solid legal background or enough evidence to have detained them (often for a number of years)
